Closing out March.

I haven't posted much lately. Mainly because I haven't been working, so I haven't had anything financial to talk about.
I had orientation for my new job on Friday though, so hopefully the financial chats will be rolling in soon!

Since its the first of April I thought I would do a recap on my goals for March.
Here they are -

I must warn you though, it isn't pretty.

March

-Do some exercise 3 times a week.
My original goal for the year was to walk 3 miles a week. But finding the time to walk was difficult. So I'm changing it to exercise. Any kind. 3 times a week.
Uh. Well here's the deal. I haven't been tracking this. But I can tell you that I have been very active, taking walks and raking, and so I cant say whether I passed or failed.
-Attempt to put $200 in my emergency Fund.
I haven't put anything in here yet, but if I'm going to get to $2,000 by January, I need to start being more aggresive with it.
Done. wonderful. $200 smackaroo's sitting in the bank.
Its a wonderful thing.
-Show Auston the awesomeness that is New Hampshire.
I grew up here. He is moving from Florida for the first time in his life. I just want him to understand the beauty and coolness of where we are going to.
We have driven around, and sight seen. and over all he is very happy. So I consider this a success.
-Donate $90 to a charity of my choosing.
A little more than last month, but I can't skip out on a month, or else meeting my goal for the year will be near impossible.
Hmm, well. It took longer to get into my position than I had anticipated, So I wasn't able to put this money in.
Also because I was let go of my last job earlier than anticipated lat year I wasn't able to Donate the $80 like I wanted. So I am really far behind in this. We will see how it goes.
-Sew 3 baby bibs.
I want to start sweing and selling different items to help pay for our adoption fee's in the upcoming years. Hopefully I will be gitting a machine shortly.
Not even one.
-Write another Chapter in my book.
I have been neglecting my story :( And it is off to such a great start. So this month I want to sit down, and really focus on it.
Fail. Fail Fail.

There you have it.
My not so success for the month.
After some careful thought though, I think I just had to much planned for such a stressful point this year. We just moved to a new state.

This month has simple goals:

April

1.) Cash. Pay for things in cash, so I will have change to stick in my sealed pot.

2.) Pay for May & Junes Rent in advance.

3.) Start running. I really want to and I am just to chicken to try.

My 25 Before 25 list...

This is the second of a Two Part Series..

Next month I will be turning 20. I don't know why this number is so daunting to me, but it is. I feel like it officially makes me an adult. Even though I have been living as one for the better part of the last two years.
Because of my excitement to turn twenty I have been doing a lot of thinking, and planning.
I have come up with a list of things I want to accomplish in the next five years!
In a little bit I will add this list to the top of my page, so you can keep an eye on my progress.

Here is my list, and a brief description on why I have listed each of these thing:

 25 before I am 25 :

  1. Master another language - Auston and I want to adopt, either a blind or deaf child, and because of this we want to master sign language.
  2. Buy a house - Who doesn't want to own their own home?
  3. Visit Italy - I come from an Italian family, I also have relatives who live in Italy still so I would love to go over there and meet my family, and see where we come from.
  4. Start a small business selling crafts - I just think this would be fun!
  5. Have a Sangria Party :] - Well, I tried sangria for the first time a couple of months ago. I am not a big wine drinker, but I loved it. And I just think it would be a blast to do this with friends (once we all hit 21)
  6. See a Broadway Show - Auston and I met in drama class, and I grew up on stage. I miss it so much sometimes, and I have never seen a big professional production like this.
  7. Go to Las Vegas - Come on guys, this one should explain itself.
  8. Learn to drive a Stick - I just think its important to know how to do. What if an emergency happened and that was the only car available? I'll be damned if I'm stuck.
  9. Buy a new car - Preferrably an eco friendly one. I REALLY want this one, but that may not happen.
  10. Read the Bible, cover to cover. - I grew up in church, I know a lot of the stories, but I have never actually taken the time to read the bible all the way through.
  11. Go to see a Patriots Game - <3 Love them.
  12. Go to a Red Sox Vs Yankee's game - Huge Red Sox fan, and I think just seeing them would be awesome, but seeing them against the Yankees would be a dream come true.
  13. Get three New Tattoos That mean something Special - I must admit, I'm addicted. But they all mean something to me.
  14. Visit Canada - Can you believe, I grew up right outside, and still, I have never been?
  15. Start a Career in Finance - Even if its just something small on the side.
  16. Spend New Years Eve in NYC - I have wanted to do this ever since I was a little girl. I think its magical.
  17. Visit 15 Museums - Auston and I both love museums. But we have a habit of going to see the same ones over and over again.
  18. Participate in a charity Walk - I'm always down for a good cause.
  19. Go Rock Climbing - This is on my bucket list, and I want to do it before I get to old.
  20. Visit 3 amusement parks - WOO roller coasters!
  21. Spend a weekend in Amish Country - I wanted to do that this year, but things happen, and they got in the way.
  22. Start and maintain a vegitable garden - I have been talking about this forever! It would save me money, and I would know there were no pesticides.
  23. Watch 100 classic Movies I have never seen before - I'm a chicken when it comes to classics. I always think they're going to be lame.
  24. Find and buy a perfect black cocktail dress. - Every girl needs one, and I would totally spend a small fourtune, if I found the perfect - Could wear for years to anything - one.
  25. Go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans - I am so excited to do this!!

There you have it - 25 things I will accomplish before I hit the age of 25.

What do you think?

Where will you be 5 years from now?

Next month I will be 20!

I can hardly believe it! Life has been flying ever since graduation, almost two years ago.

Along with everyones 2012 goals, and monthly goals, or weekly goals, and plans to pay off thier debt and homes, I have also seen a couple of other bloggers post a 5 year plan.
Niki Talks about hers here
And Michelle also has hers posted
I haven't made a list like theirs yet, though I really do think I am going to shortly.

Five years from now I will be turning 25! That seems so impossibly far away. Its not though, and I know those years are going to go much faster than I think.
I also know, that I have big dreams, and hopes for the future and if they are not planned out properly, they probably won't happen.

What kind of dreams you might ask?

Well for one, I know I want to get married. Auston and I have been talking about it forever, we can juust never fit it into our budget. How unromantic.
We want to adopt, special needs (blind or deaf probably) preferably. This will take a lot of planning, and reasearch and saving.  (More on this subject matter to come in a future post)
I want to take classes, on something, and maybe go to college. That has never been high on my to-do list, but lately I have been finding things I might like to go for. Finance being one of them.

As you can see, I have a couple of rather large ambitions. I have more to add, but I don't want to ruin my post by giving it away to early...

I know this post is kind of choppy and pieced together, I can't seem to focus tonight.

What do you think? Do you find it helpful to have a long-term plan?

January goal update & some no-spend news.

Yesterday we had a lovely No-Spend day! :)
 Today we did not.

We didn't do much yesterday, other than laze about before I had to go to work.
Today we did basically the same thing -except we threw in a small grocery trip, and paid most of the electric bill ( Luckily we can do both of these things at the same location!)

Today's Spending :
$8.77 on a small grocery trip - we needed to pick up bread, steak, sausage, and worsteshire sauce.
I am so pleased with the amount of food we have in our fridge and cabinets, honestly I don't forsee another large shopping trip this month.
$70.00 on the Electric bill - THIS MADE ME CRAZY!!!! Living on a servers salary, life is paycheck to paycheck. My electric bill was like $79 and some odd cents, but I only had enough to pay $70! Leaving me with a silly balace of $9.00 and some odd cents. Poop. Tomorrow, or sometime this week I will pay the rest.

So I noticed I haven't made an update on my monthly goals yet. So, here they are.

January 2012!-No Spend Month.
Outside our fixed bills and a few other things listed here, we will not be spending any extra cash.
So far so good, other than our one slip up this week, which I already explained in yesterday's post, we have not spent ANYTHING, outside our fixed bills, and a few other allotted for things.

-Read atleast one book
One of my goals for 2012 is to read one book a month, here's to hoping I get off on the right foot.
Finished my book in one night!
So Proud.

-Set aside $400.00 for our move
This is a big amount, but I we only have two more months and so I really NEED to set atleast
$400 aside.
1-08-12 : $20.00
I know, a dismal amount. But this week I should be adding quite a hefty sum.-Contribute daily to our sealed pot
We started this in December, and my Pot is already getting heavy! So far so good, I hope we can keep it up!
We have been right on track with this, our pot is so heavyy!! I can not wait till December to open up our mystery fourtune!! -Start maintenence on Austons car
Auston's car is going to need a few things done before it will be able to make the 1,500 mile drive up to NH.
We have not started this!
I should sit down here in a day or so and make a list of what needs to be done.- Drink 64 ounces - roughly 6 glasses - of water a day.
I don't drink enough water. My day is full of milk, and tea, and soda. The thing is - I LOVE WATER. I just don't drink enough of it.
This goal is a lot harder than I thought it would be!!
I drink more water than before, that is true without a doubt.
I do not always make it to 6 glasses. : (
Shame on me.

How are your goals going? Whether they be monthly, weekly, or yearly.

End of December Goal Recap. & new ones for January.

These are the goals I set for myself in December :

- No more eating at work.
I'm sure I can find a much better way to spend my money than at my own resturaunt. Instead I will start bringing granola bars for when I get hungry.
Okay, okay, here's the deal - I did eat at work this month, but in all honesty, I wouldn't call this a total fail, because I did manage to cut way back on how often I eat there. (I think I only caved like 4 times?) So
Fail-ish.

-Walk atleast once a week This way I can start getting myself in a routine and I will be able to successfully walk 2.75 miles a week like I have planned for next year.
12-10-11 : My love, the family, and I took a walk around a beautiful family farm up un GA.
12-15-11 : The dog, Love, and I went on a stroll by the river.
12-22-11 : Love, dog, and I, another stroll by the river, on an unseasonably beautiful December day.
12-30-11: Love and I took a walk through his moms neigborhood.
Super Pass! I am actually very proud of myself for this. I hope I can keep myself this motivated in the future.

- Put $100 towards my move in march
Most of that funding is coming from my Tax return, but I do need a little bit of a head start.
12-9-11 : $10.00
12-16-11: $20.00
12-23-11: $10.00
12-24-11: $200.00 - Thanks to my WONDERFUL family, for Christmas, we were able to add $200.00 towards our trip. (plus a couple gift cards!)
12-30-11 : $29.00
All in all, we added about $555.00 to our account, through cash and gift cards from friends and family.
PASS.

-Start a "Piggy Bank" that we will not open for one year. I want to add a little to it each day, it needs to be sealed off and solid in color so we won't know how much is in there, and we wont be tempted to open it!
"the sealed pot challenge"
Boo-ya! I started this on 12-5-11!
We have continuously added to it and it is already about half full! I think I need a bigger pot!
Pass
-Bake 112 cookies to give away to friends and family for Christmas
We don't have much money to spare, I think this is a great way to show them that we care though.
12-21-11 : Baked 84! Almost there!
12-23-11: In total we baked 154 cookies for friends and family! (plus a couple extra for ourselves.)
PASS

So Listed above were the goals I set for myself in December, little things to help keep me motivated throughout the year. Below is my list of goals for January. Hopefully I do as well in January as I did in december, if not better.

January 2012

-No Spend Month. Outside our fixed bills and a few other things listed here, we will not be spending any extra cash.

-Read atleast one book One of my goals for 2012 is to read one book a month, here's to hoping I get off on the right foot.

- Drink 84 ounces - roughly 6 glasses - of water a day. I don't drink enough water. My day is full of milk, and tea, and soda. The thing is - I LOVE WATER. I just don't drink enough of it. I know this one sounds easy, but I think it might be trickier than I expect.

Christmas 2012!

So, with the passing of one year brings tons of ideas for the new one!
We didn't exactly plan out Christmas 2011, it was more like December rolled around and we were like, OH MY! We have to make sure everyone has a gift! And with 14 sets of adult couples in the family that can be a tough feat. Luckily I was crafty, and I love baking, so we decorated containers, and made everyone cookies, I really hope everyone enjoyed them.
Next year I want to be much more prepared, I want to be able to give bigger, better gifts, and most importantly, I don't want it to feel like ripping off a bandaid while I'm doing it.

So here is my plan for Christmas 2012! :

  • I want to buy atleast one present each month during 2012, that way I can spread the cost out. It won't be so daunting to shop for everyone all at once.
  • I want to set between $15-$50 a month aside for last minute Christmas gifts, decorations, parties, or holiday events we might want to partake in.
  • I do still want to be crafty, but next year I want my crafts to be awesome, so I want to start my Christmas crafting early this year, instead of waiting till last minute.
  • I also want to plan WHO I'm buying for. All of a sudden December hits and you realize you have 28 people you want to buy gifts for - that happened this year, and it was more than a little frightening.
    • People I plan on shopping for :
      • Mom
      • Bill
      • Mark
      • Dad
      • Zoe
      • Molly
      • Mary
      • Matthew
      • Chris
      • Vanessa
      • Macy
      • Kyra
      • Lori
      • Scotty
      • Randy
      • Cody
      • Melissa
      • Deb
      • Auston (I almost forgot him!!!)
Thats 19 people already! Believe it or not they are all immideate family! Moms and Dads and brothers and sisters, and a few nieces. Now Imagine if we decide to throw friends into the mix!

I know last minute things will arise, but hopefully my planning will help make Christmas 2012 flow smoother that Christmas 2011 (not that we didn't have an amazing year, because we did!)

Welcome to Florida! I don't really have anything entertaining to say about these ugly little buggers. Other than the fact that I will be so unbelievably happy once we move up north and I no longer have to worry about being eaten by them!

Decmeber Goal Check in #3

All right Guys, its FRIDAY, and you all know that means its time for my weekly Goal Check in.
Listed below are my goals for December, and the progress I have made.

- No more eating at work
I'm sure I can find a much better way to spend my money than at my own resturaunt. Instead I will start bringing granola bars for when I get hungry.
I'm pretty sure at this point we can just chalk this up to a FAIL. I still have a week left to try and finish strong though!

-Walk atleast once a week      This way I can start getting myself in a routine and I will be able to successfully walk 2.75 miles a week like I have planned for next year.
12-22-11 : Love, dog, and I, another stroll by the river, on an unseasonably beautiful December day. This last walk was great, Auston came willingly, I didn't have to pull teeth this time. The weather was beautiful, everyone out and about was cheerful and full of Merry Christmases. I only have one more walk left but so far I am passing this challenge with flying colors!

- Put $100 towards my move in march      Most of that funding is coming from my Tax return, but I do need a little bit of a head start.
12-23-11: $10.00
I got paid today, I know, I know, $10 isn't a whole lot, but honestly it's all I could afford to put in this week. I am still trying to figure out how we are going to manage rent.

PASS.

-Bake 112 cookies to give away to friends and family for Christmas      We don't have much money to spare, I think this is a great way to show them that we care though.
12-21-11 : Baked 84! Almost there!
Tonight we will be finishing up the rest of the cookies. I am stoked to have all our Christmas gifts done and out of the way with a WHOLE DAY to spare!

Saving, little by little.

Today - No Spend Day :]

Tomorrow's to-do list :
  • Find the perfect scarf for my sister (under $15.00). - This is the last present I have to get, and I am really going to have to shop around for it.
  • Take a walk - So as to stay on track with my December Goals.
  • Go to the movies with my Loveyy - Now ordinarily I wouldn't waste the money on the movie theater, but this is my Christmas gift to him. I decided he could have it early.
  • Bake half of the cookies.
  • Finish making my Christmas Treat Containers. - I REALLY don't want to be doing this on Christmas eve.

I can not believe Christmas is so close! I am beyond excited! This is my favorite time of year.

We keep adding money daily to our sealed pot. Sometimes its $2.00, and other days its five cents. Next year I am going to put this all towards a small weekend getaway for Auston and I. I am not very good at savings usually, so I really hope that I can stick to this.

Earlier today I was tempted to transfer money out of our savings account, for something that was very unnecessary. I took it out, and quickly put it right back in. I am proud of myself for just saying NO. It's still very much a work in progress with me and saving.

Auston has been very supportive of my goals recently. He was the one to suggest we take a walk tomorrow. I was a little taken aback by the suggestion, the last time we went for a walk it was almost like pulling his teeth. He is also asking for less and less when we go to the store, which makes shopping trips one million times easier!

All in all, it has been a very succesful month so far.

-Walk atleast once a week
This way I can start getting myself in a routine and I will be able to successfully walk 2.75 miles a week like I have planned for next year.

I am less than half way there :/ I am really hoping tomorrows shift bears more results so I can tuck more away.

I am really impressed with the fact that we only ate out once, and It was such a small amount. I even went back through each day thinking about what we ate and where we went, just to make sure I didn't forget to write something down. We wouldn't have even gone that one time, but I had just donated plasma, and I felt a little woozy, so I had to eat right away ( I am ashamed to admit I was on my way to a family dinner when we made this stop)
